Gene Childer’s Whimsicals on display in Pittsford through November

Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.—PITTSFORD—The Maclure Library will host an artist open house on Tuesday, Nov. 15 for musician, educator, and artist Gene Childers, from 5-7 p.m. Known for works filled with imagination, humor, and playfulness, the show, Whimsicals, will focus on sculpture.
Each piece of art is playful and humorous and created from objects that can be labeled junk, scraps and marginal items that Childers found in yard sales, free piles and thrift shops. “The primary elements that I try to bring to my work are imagination, whimsy, playfulness, humor, color, shape and texture,” shared Childers. “I love repurposing, recycling and re-imagining objects into art. Looking for off bits and pieces to turn into new creations is much like a treasure hunt. It is great fun to see how many dissimilar and unlikely things can be combined into a piece.”
The Maclure Library is located at 840 Arch Street, Pittsford, and is ADA accessible. The event is free and open to the public. Whimsicals will be on display the month of November.
