KMS alpine athletes finish well in height of season

KILLINGTON — It’s the height of competition for the alpine season and Killington Mountain School athletes are competing in high-level competitions and qualifying for a wide-range of elite races. Students Izzy Jenne and Brad Underhill were recently notified that they qualified for Can-Ams at Sugarloaf.

The U16s had state races in Sugarbush over the weekend. Jenna Jenkins finished 10th in slalom, with Bella Amico rounding out the top 30. Izzy Jenne took sixth in the giant slalom, with Bella Amico in 19th and Jenna Jenkins in 25th. Izzy Jenne took fifth in the super giant slalom, with Bella Amico in 20th and Francesca Castellini in 27th.

Jenne, Amico, and Jenkins made U16 Eastern Championships and Castellini qualified for U16 Eastern Finals.

Bo and Brad Underhill have qualified for Eastern Championships and PJ Bovaconti and Quin Taylor qualified for Eastern Finals.

The U19s were at Burke for State Championships where Brad Underhill finished fifth, Bo Underhill was 12th, Quin Taylor was 30th, and Zach Jablonski was 37th, and Matt Fryer (cutting his bib in half, starting 97) rounded out the top 40.

The PG boys also recently raced at West Mountain where Graeme Price and Ryan Znamierowski finished 12th and 18th respectively in the slalom and scored their best results of the year. Coach Pavel reported that it was a very positive day and good skiing for the older boys and that in slalom, they are finding their “race tempo.”

The U19 girls recently raced at Shawnee in slalom where Lily Hogan was the third U19 and Ava Mattsson was second overall and the first U19. This was Becca Clark’s first FIS race and she skied very well. Lily Hogan, Ava Mattsson, and Cassidy Bebo placed 7,8,9 respectively on the second day.

At another race in Bromont, Canada, Lily Hogan was the fourth U19 on the second day of slalom and at Middlebury was the second U19. Becca Clark won the Pico slalom.

At Suicide Six, Cassidy Bebo won a slalom run.

The U14s are preparing for states at Stowe with the entire KMS crew qualifying and many of the Development Program athletes making shootouts!

The U12s were at Pico on Sunday for a slalom where Shelby Graves took fourth, Natalie Balinsky 11th, and Ashley Anderson 13th. In the boys’ race, Connor Roy finished sixth, Tyler Gras ninth, Gaven Schain 11th, and Morgan Haisman 13th.
