New shoes and encouragement for Rutland children

Humanitarian non-profit Samaritan's Feet was proud to host its Shoes of Hope shoe distribution event on Feb. 20, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Forest Park Community Center in Rutland, Vt.

Rutland High School Head Football Coach Mike Norman and his team will be washing the feet of 100 students and placing new shoes and socks on their feet. Coach Norman coached barefoot in September to raise shoes and money for Samaritan's Feet. They are now seeing the fruits of their labor and serving these children in their community.

These efforts are to bestow children with a new pair of shoes and a message of hope - to meet physical needs and inspire young people to believe in the value of life and service.

The people of Samaritan's Feet believe that shoes are so much more than status symbols and fashion accessories. A new pair of shoes can be a symbol of hope and the source of life to a person inneed. The Samaritan's Feet Shoes of Hope distributions are designed to both meet physical needs and inspire young people to believe in the value of life and service. These distributions are the outpouring of the Samaritan's Feet dedication to changing hearts and lives forever.

There are an estimated 300 million children who go without shoes every day and more than 1 million that die each year from foot borne disease. Samaritan's Feet goal is to provide 10 million pairs of shoes for children in the next 10 years. Since 2003, Samaritan's Feet and its team of 70,000 ambassadors have blessed an estimated 3.5 million children in over 62 nations.

Samaritan's Feet was started in 2003 by Manny Ohonme who received his first pair of shoes at the age of 9 from a missionary.  Those shoes allowed him to learn and play the game of basketball, which ultimately earned him a scholarship to the University of North Dakota (Lake Region). Manny went on to receive his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees and pursued a successful career in supply chain software industries. A simple pair of shoes and the kindness and compassion shared by this missionary changed the course of Manny's life.
