KILLINGTON-The students at Stafford Technical Center recently
enjoyed the first school-wide Fun Day, which was hosted by Pico Ski
Area. Melissa Patterson, an English teacher at Stafford Technical
Center, who is also a ski instructor at Pico, was instrumental in
arranging for students to be able to enjoy one of four different
sports at the resort.
Students could opt to either ski, snowboard or snowshoe, and
lessons and equiptment rentals were available. The other choice was
to spend the day at Pico's Sports Center, where students could work
out in the exercise area, swim in the pool, or just relax in the
hot tub.
Not only was this an excellent opportunity for the Stafford
students to have fun, but the day also fulfilled a number of goals.
Students, who often don't have many opportunities to interact with
those in other program areas were able to have fun with new friends
and be physically active. The day also afforded many students the
experience to go to a ski area and try winter sports; even though
the students may live ony ten miles away, many had never been to a
ski resort.
In keeping with Stafford's commitment to giving back to the
community, Mr. Comstock's Modern Music Class spent the day
providing live entertainment to all the staff and guests of the ski
area in the base lodge. The staff at Pico was welcoming,
accommodating, and made it so the Stafford students had a great
time.
