The state's High School Completion Program is formally
recognized at Institute.21
The Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), a broad coalition
of education, non-profit and business leaders, in conjunction with
stakeholders from P21's seventeen 21st Century Skills Leadership
States, are meeting at Institute.21 to share promising ideas,
policies and innovations in the implementation of 21st century
teaching and learning.
P21's 6th annual best practices forum will focus on exemplars of
21st century learning, links between 21st century skills and career
and technical education, as well as the role of community
organizations in supporting 21st Century Skills attainment.
Institute.21 will also be a celebration of P21's 10 year
anniversary as a catalyst organization for 21st century readiness
for every student.
"We are excited to showcase ongoing implementation successes and
challenges, as we reflect on the 10 year history of this unique
collaborative effort," noted Lillian Kellogg, Vice President of
Education Networks of America and Chair of P21. "P21 shares its
successes with its committed members, partner organizations, and
leadership states in working to ensure that all students receive an
education that prepares them for life, college, and careers in the
21st century."
Those scheduled to present at the Institute based on their work,
include: Terry Holiday, Ph.D. Kentucky Commissioner of Education
and chair of the P21 State Advisory Committee; Marc Tucker,
President and Chief Executive Officer, National Center on Education
and the Economy; Michelle Shearer, 2011 National Teacher of the
Year; Scotty Brody, national vice president of American Camp
Association; David Philippi, National Academy Foundation, Community
Partnership Coordinator, as well as several state education chiefs
and deputies.
Institute.21, a day-long summit and best practices awards
ceremony, precedes the Council of Chief State School Officers' 2012
Summer Institute and recognizes leadership states in implementing
P21's comprehensive 21st century skills framework. Presented in
recognition of state achievement in 21st Century Education, these
awards acknowledge the efforts of P21 Leadership States to
integrate 21st Century Skills into their policy, practice and
professional development. The 2012 awardees include:
Kansas, for the state's Innovating 21st Century
Accreditation;
Kentucky, recognizing the P20 Innovation Lab Partnership;
North Carolina, recognizing the 2012 READY Outreach Program;
Vermont, for the state's High School Completion Program;
Wisconsin, recognizing the state's Every Child a Graduate
program;
Recognition of Achievement in 21st Century Education John Wilson
Award was presented to North Carolina for the state's innovative
Blended Learning Program.
21st Century Skills Leadership States: Arizona, Illinois, Iowa,
Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New
Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota,
Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
