Dear Editor,
Hard times make us all reach out for community. When hard times
are with us and the future appears bleak, reaching out to strangers
and sharing our lives is difficult. Churches make this easier.
Anonymity disappears.
I am a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of
Springfield, Vt. and our church has helped me to listen to others
with both my heart and mind. I am sure other churches do this
too.
We have a part-time minister which means members of the
congregation may lead services at times. I have found this
experience to be like no other. We also have a small self-led
choir, which has a large sound and a big heart.
You might well ask what we believe. There is no single answer to
this, only a journey.
I want this letter to make the case for all churches in the
area. Many of us are now facing serious problems we never could
have imagined. Sharing and articulating these problems, no matter
how much we stumble, can make a world of difference in our
lives.
The church you choose to attend is as personal and private as
your beliefs.
Reach out and join others in this Christmas season,
Glen Williams
