Three lost skiers directed to safety

On Sunday, March 24 at 1:10 p.m. Vermont State Police Rutland dispatch received a call for three out of bounds skiers who became lost after attempting to ski west on the Great Northern trail located on Killington Mountain. The caller, Maureen McBurnie, age 21 of Highlands, NJ advised they knowingly skied off the marked trail. McBurnie was joined by James Grantham, age 19, and Gail Gruber age 19 also from Highlands, NJ.

All three out of bounds skiers were dressed for the weather and in good health, however, had no food or water when reporting they had become lost. Dispatch personnel periodically maintained contact via cellular phone until the group exited the woods approximately three hours later.  No injuries had been reported.
