Local firewood business does their part to prevent EAB

RUTLAND - Central Vermont Chimney Sweeping does more than just clean chimneys. They also sell bug-free, heat treated firewood. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has emerged as a devastating killer of ash trees in the United States and Canada. With this problem in mind, they are following a path to help prevent the spread of this invasive species into Vermont.

Central Vermont Chimney Sweeping has anticipated stricter Vermont regulations regarding heat treating firewood to prevent spread of EAB, bugs, and diseases. They are voluntarily working with USDA to be in compliance with the heat treatment, which is 160 degrees for 75 minutes. Heat treatment is an approved method to kill EAB in firewood and prevent its transport between regions and states.
