Boaters alert authorities of Lake Bomoseen house fire

CASTLETON - On June 30, the Castleton Fire Department responded to a fire at 1647 Creek Road in Castleton. Some people boating on the lake saw the house fire and called 911. When the fire department arrived they discovered the entire structure on fire and a live power line lying across the road.

The fire department was able to extinguish the fire but the house is considered a total loss. Damages are estimated in excess of $150,000. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

The home was owned by Chet Dunican, from Castleton, Vt.

The Castleton Fire Department contacted the Vermont State Police and requested an origin and cause fire investigation be conducted. Detectives from the State Police Fire Investigation Unit and Fire Investigators with the Division of Fire Safety responded to the scene on June 30.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Arson Tip Line at 1-800-32-ARSON or the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks. (There is up to a $5,000.00 reward for information resulting in an arrest.)
