- Killington Softball League: If you can’t get runs, at least don’t make errors

McMoguls is the last of the unbeaten and did so with a quick
forfeit win against Slopeside Bar & Grill, keeping their
shutout streak alive. A win is a win and this one was still earned
as Coach Pryor took a ball off the shin and Tweed Bus Bob had an
outstanding web gem sideline catch.
The Vermonsters, Phat Italian and Clear Cottage all had up and down
weeks, exchanging wins and losses. The Phat Italian had the biggest
win of the bunch as they bashed the Clear Cottage 13-4 which halted
their winning streak at 11. The Clear was a run scoring machine up
until that game having scored 44 in their previous three wins. This
time the Phat Italian was the well-oiled machine with outstanding
plays on offense and defense. Coach Craig Brothers led the
defensive charge, robbing 3 sure home runs. Rob "Cooler than Rambo"
Ranberg had the web gem of the game when he ran down a foul ball
with a Superman dive and catch. The Clear's side of the scoreboard
read 4-7-9 which would be ok if it was read backwards, but
unfortunately that is runs, hits and a whopping 9 errors.
The Phat Italian was involved in an exciting game earlier in the
week, although in a losing effort. STF jumped out to a 2-0 lead in
the 1st off a bomb by Alfi. They just kept adding runs and all the
Phat could add were errors. STF took a 7-1 lead into the top of the
6th and looked like they were going to get another blowout win. The
Phat Italian finally fired up the hit machine and it was the late
presence of veteran Steve "Killer" Kent who lit the fuse. The Phat
put a scare into STF cutting the lead 7-5 and then stopped STF in
the bottom of the 6th with some great "D".
Unfortunately for the Phat, they stranded some runners in the 7th
to suffer the close hard fought loss. They also kept it close in
the "Cold Beer" K battle but lost that one too. STF had Chandler
Burgess and Chris Kennison with one a piece, looking. The Phat saw
Cam go down looking and Isiah go down twice.
The Clear started their week off on a positive note with a 13-3
mercy win over the Vermonsters. The Vermonsters started things off
with 2 runs in the top of the 1st but the Clear batted through
their order in the bottom and took a 6-2 lead. The Clear was on all
night, hitting in every inning, but they really shined on defense.
Gordy had an outstanding web gem catch in the 2nd. The Vermonsters
lost a run in the 3rd when Justin got caught in a run down at third
and was thrown out by Johnny "Lightning" Hurley. It was the 4th
inning that saw the most impressive play of the evening. Brett "One
Tire Short of a Cycle" Regimbald had an absolute laser of a throw
from the outfield that caught Jason out at 2nd. It showed the
cannon of an arm that Brett has that made people ask; does he have
a scope on that thing?
The Vermonsters took out their frustration from that loss on the
Heavy Hitters with a blowout win. The Hitters had some highlights
though as they welcomed the return of shortstop Megan Poljacik who
was playing in her 1st game of the season. She's a wall and kept
making great catch after catch. They also welcomed the return of
left center fielder Phill "Allmost No More" Andrews who fixed the
hole in his glove to return to good form. Every game a different
player steps up for the Hitters and this time the star was Vincent
Chiarella who had a bases clearing triple, just a few feet shy of
an inside-the-park grand slammy. Right after that he made a great
web gem catch at 2nd.
