Small Dog Electronics collects truck loads of eWaste during
annual Vermont recycling event
New England's largest Apple specialist, Small Dog
Electronics, collected and recycled enough electronic waste
(eWaste) to fill three tractor-trailers outside of Rutland High
School during their annual eWaste Recycling Event last
weekend-the company's first event in Rutland-and it didn't cost the
public a dime.
A total of 459 cars filled with old TVs, computers and
electronic peripherals lined up as early as 8:30 a.m. to recycle
their electronics for free. Rutland Mayor Chris Louras stopped by
the event and offered his encouragement to Rutland residents as
they dropped off their old electronics. All of the electronics
collected will be processed in the United States by Sims Recycling
Solutions at one of its fourteen processing plants in North
America.
Small Dog's annual eWaste Recycling Event is part of the
company's mission of social and environmental
responsibility. "We have found that the best way to recycle
what we sell is to educate our customers about it. Although
manufacturing processes are improving, computers, monitors and
other equipment have some hazardous contents like cadmium, mercury
and chromium that can leach into the soil and contaminate
groundwater," says Don Mayer, CEO and founder of Small Dog
Electronics.
Small Dog recycles eWaste safely and responsibly all year-round
at no charge in all three of its locations. "Small Dog Electronics
measures its success by people, planet and profit. This is the
planet part in action and in this difficult economy when people are
cutting back on everything, it's important to not forget that we
can work together to make a real difference," said Mayer.
