Personal note of thanks

Dear Editor,

I was very encouraged by the level of community support for SP Land Company's dealings with the Rutland Regional Planning Commission the night of April 16. We have attempted to work with the staff of the RRPC beginning in May 2011. The number of delays, multiple submittals containing unreasonable burdensome proposed conditions, and staff misrepresentations have resulted in an exhausting and costly exercise to keep our permitting request for Phase I of the Killington Village on the right track.

Unsolicited, the Killington Selectboard, Planning Commission, our State Representative Anne Gallivan and several interested residents (you know who you are) jumped into action to counter the mis-steps of the RRPC executive team and tried to provide the larger perspective to the Commissioners.

The community's actions included letters to the RRPC Board and attendance at the Regional Issues Committee and Board Meeting by a representative of the Selectboard, two representatives of the Planning Commission, Representative Gallivan, the Mountain Times and several Killington residents.  Also, Rutland Economic Development Corp. and the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce contributed their support for our position on this issue. That strong showing of community support resulted in the Regional Issues Committee not recommending the RRPC staff-recommended burdensome proposed conditions to the Board. The work continues . . .

Yes, I am encouraged by the actions of the RRPC Regional Issues Committee and Board that night, but extremely encouraged by the actions taken by our Killington-Rutland officials and concerned residents.

Thank you!
Steve Selbo, President, SP Land Company
