Killington Parks and Recreation Dept. announces expanded 2012 summer programs

This summer will feature some of the traditional programs and events that residents and non-residents alike have enjoyed for years, as well as new offerings for 2012.

KPR will continue its two fun-filled summer camps - Camp Loads of Fun and Rek & Trek Adventure Camp. Camp Loads of Fun provides the fun and camaraderie of a neighborhood full of kids with group games, arts and crafts and other exciting projects. Located at the Johnson Recreation Center, campers will have the opportunity to enjoy other activities offered in the same location, including swim lessons and soccer and tennis camps.

Rek & Trek Adventure Camp provides kids with a wonderful opportunity to experience the great outdoors all summer long. Campers will be transported throughout the Killington region, taking part in various activities amongst the natural beauty that Vermont has to offer. Activities include tubing adventures along the White River, gondola rides at Killington Resort, hiking trips in the Green Mountains, swimming in Quechee Gorge, and much more.

"We are so excited to offer a great combination of fun and entertainment for all ages on River Road," said Lyndsay Gang, Interim Director for Killington Parks & Recreation. "And we're also thrilled to welcome residents, tourists and second homeowners to our expanded concert and movie offerings this summer."

For six weeks in July and August, KPR will continue the River Road Summer Concert Series at the Sherburne Memorial Library on Thursday evenings. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks to relax in the cool summer nights, while enjoying a variety of free musical entertainment on River Road.

KPR will also extend Splash Theater, where guests are encouraged to bring their favorite pool float to the Johnson Recreation Center Pool for the perfect seat from which to enjoy a big-screen summer movie. Other KPR summer programs on River Road include swim lessons at the Johnson Recreation Area Pool throughout the summer; a one-week Challenger Soccer Camp; the "Top Spin" Tennis Camp; and the Killington Sharks Swim Team.
