STOCKBRIDGE-Starting Friday, June 15, the Tweed River grounds in Stockbridge will be transformed, as the Ziontific Summer Solstice Music Fest takes over for three days of music and events open to all ages. This year marks the second annual event for Ziontific Productions in Stockbridge. Gates will be open Friday, June 15 at 10 a.m. to Monday, June 18 at 12-noon.

"We founded Ziontific Productions in 2011 as a way to bring the finest of New England's music, art, awareness groups and non-profit organizations together for a weekend of culture, fun and networking," explain the founders, in their online biography. "Musically, we try to bring the best up and coming acts from around New England across various genre's ranging anywhere from classic rock to funk. We promote consciousness through the music, adding to the positive atmosphere we attempt to create for our attendees."

The name Ziontific further exemplifies this purpose. "The first part 'Zion' is a name used in many cultures to describe a place of harmony. The second half being a play on the word "scientific" acknowledges the need to be smart when trying to create change for the better," the founders say.

While music is the focus of the festival, there will also be creative and educational activities such as face painting, informational nature hikes, seed sowing, music workshops, arts and crafts. Kids activities include mask making, hula hoop lessons and games, kids choir, kids culinary (healthy snack making), field day games, kids instrumental performance, family yoga, rock painting, story telling, parachute games, rhythm circle, kids photography and sudsy putty soap molding.

Sound therapy, massage, yoga and meditative tai chi classes will be offered in the Wellness Village.

Camping completes the experience for many and is included in the ticket price. In addition to field camping, this year Ziontific offers river-side wooded camping. There is a limited amount available on a first come, first serve basis. A designated family camping area will be provided as well.

"It was clear to me the moment I arrived at the venue that something was different about Ziontific Summer Solstice Music Fest," said Kim Tyler, a volunteer with Strangers Helping Strangers. "From the sunrise yoga to tubing down the gorgeous river to the INCREDIBLE music. Dancing in the rain and coming together in a way that still gives me chills. A family was born there in VT that weekend in June and the anticipation to return grows with every passing day."

In keeping with the founders' ideal, evoking change for the better, various awareness groups will present again this year. Strangers Helping Strangers will be running a food drive during this year's event; attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food, toiletry, feminine, personal hygiene or baby product donation for the local food bank.

Additionally, two trees will be planted this year for each ticket sold and donations will be accepted to plant more. Last year, Ziontific helped plant over 1400 trees through Trees for the Future and Be Heady. The 2012 planting goal is 2,800 trees.

Advanced tickets for adults (age 16+) are $75 for the weekend or $60 for 2 days and nights. Youth (age 12-15) are $65 for the weekend or $50 for 2 days and nights. Kids 11 and under are free.

Tickets at the gate are also available. Adults are $90 for the weekend or $75 for 2 days and nights. Youth are $80 for the weekend or $65 for two days and nights. Kids 11 and under are free.

Day passes will also be for sale at the gate. Friday: $40, Saturday: $50, Sunday: $30.
