Downtown Rutland Partnership announces extension of Friday Night Live

Rutland, VT (August 14, 2012) The Downtown Rutland Partnership (DRP)  today announced the extension of Friday Night Live by One Evening, Friday, August 17, 2012.

Due to severe weather warnings, DRP was forced to postpone last week's Friday Night Live event. The cancellation on August 10th also included the postponement of the final Friday Night Food Fight.  Both events will take place this Friday, August 17, 2012.

"Last Friday, the weather forecast called for a 100% chance of heavy rain with thunder and lightening.  They were forecasting 1-2" of rainfall in short bursts.  After the storm that literally blew through the sidewalk festival last weekend, causing storefront and equipment damage and putting vendors and patrons at risk, we thought it best to postpone", said Michael Coppinger, DRP Executive Director.

"In six years, this is the first time we have cancelled the event.  And while it was frustrating that the forecast was incorrect, it was most important to us to ensure everyone's safety", Coppinger continued. "We are pleased to announce the addition of one more Friday Night Live, this Friday, August 17th, to complete our eight week event series".

DRP is working with downtown retailers, restaurants and its partner vendors to ensure that this Friday's event meets the same standards as previous festivals.  Music and children's entertainment will be announced shortly.  The event will kick off on Center Street at 6PM as usual.  The Food Fight finale will take place at 7PM in front of the Paramount Theatre.  DRP suggests visiting their website for updated details on the event.
