BARNARD-The Barnard Community Trust is holding a 'meet and
greet' Saturday, October 14 at the Barnard Town Hall from 4-6 p.m.
to promote the Pentangle sponsored production of "If You Ever Leave
Me, I'm Going With You" starring Emmy Award winners Renee Taylor
and Joe Bologna, Dec. 16. A percentage of ticket sales will go to
benefit the Barnard General Store.
Taylor and Bologna have spent summers in Barnard for over 30
years, and have been long time advocates for the General Store and
the town itself.
"We absolutely love Barnard," says Taylor, "it is one of the
most beautiful places we have ever been to, and we feel it is just
as amazing of a place as Rome or Paris… Honestly, I'd pick Barnard
as the prettiest of the three."
Taylor, 79 years old, is still very busy in show business. Aside
from starring with Fran Dresher on the TV series "Happily Divided"
which is heading into its second season this year, she will be
performing a one woman off Broadway show based on her book My Life
on a Diet.
"This play is a great example of how the Barnard General Store
affected my life. I ate their ice cream all the time!" joked
Taylor, who says that even though she and husband Joe Bologna live
and work in Beverly Hills, they are "phony" when living on the west
coast and "real" when they visit Barnard.
The General Store, which closed this past May, has been leased
by the Preservation Trust of Vermont to the Barnard Community Trust
(BCT) for a period of six months in an attempt to raise $500,000
for purchase of the property. Since June of this year, the BCT has
been offering morning coffee and baked goods for donation to
supplement their fundraising process. Thus far, BCT has
successfully raised over $280,000; more than half of their $500,000
Last month, the BCT issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to
welcome individuals who are looking to start a business and are
interested in doing so at the Barnard General Store. All letters of
interest must be submitted to the BCT by November 1. For more
