Downtown Rutland Partnership kick-starts the holiday season

The Downtown Rutland Partnership (DRP) will sponsor activities on Sunday, Nov. 25 to kick-off the holiday season.

Having already begun to adorn downtown Rutland with holiday decorations, DRP will officially kick-off the holiday festivities on Thanksgiving weekend.  Starting with a reminder that Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24, DRP asks everyone to take part in this national effort to support locally owned businesses. DRP urges residents to kick-off their holiday shopping with a visit to the many shops and services in downtown Rutland.

Sunday, Nov. 25 then starts the first of many holiday events. DRP will sponsor visits with Santa at the Paramount Brick Box from 3-4:45 p.m. The Paramount Theatre will also be showing children's holiday matinees at 3:30 and 4 p.m., along with other children's activities.

The festivities will conclude with the annual tree lighting ceremony in Depot Park at 5 p.m. This year, the ceremony itself will have a new focus. Rather than one large tree, local businesses are sponsoring a "grove of trees." Each tree will be decorated in the style of that business's choosing. DRP expects most of the decorating to take place on Sunday, Nov. 25 during the afternoon. Hopeful that the decorating activity will create an event in its own right, DRP welcomes residents to come to Depot Park during the day and watch the fun. The goal of the "grove" is to create an enchanting and magical holiday space for all of Rutland to enjoy.
