CAITLIN CANTY
On Sunday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m., Brandon Music will present a
concert by celebrated local musician Caitlin Canty. The
Vermont native, who now resides in New York City, has folk-pop
roots with a Western tone. Mark Miller, Music Director for UrbanH2O
describes Canty as "clear eyed, clear voiced, singing sweetly from
her soul, she captivates an audience."
The singer/songwriter contributes her pure, nuanced singing to
several bands in addition to maintaining an active tour schedule of
her own. Her current collaborations include co-writing and singing
backing vocals for several bands, including Darlingside, a string
rock band, and serving as one half of the duo Down Like Silver with
Peter Bradley Adams, which released its debut EP in 2011. Caitlin
has independently released several EPs including Neon Streets
(2010) and one full-length album, Green (2007), which she recorded
and mixed in her home studio. Her sophomore album, Golden Hour, was
released last October which includes her Brooklyn-based,
Nashville-bred band, bringing an alt-country flavor to Canty's
songs. The result is a soulful album of lyrical Americana,
with brooding melodies and high-country motifs.
Canty is described as being a "natural vocalist" with a
"hauntingly beautiful voice." Leicester Bangs describes her
songs as "graceful…with elements of dark Americana and folk
flirting with a mature almost-but-not-quite jazz ambience."
General admission to the show is $15 and reservations are
encouraged. A pre-show dinner package is available for $30. Venue
is BYOB. Call 802-465-4071 or email info@brandon-music.net for
