Five week free concert series will feature national acts,
Americana jam-bands and past favorites
Just in time for the summer festival season, the Town of
Killington has announced the full line up for the third year of the
Cooler in the Mountains free summer concert series, presented by
Long Trail Brewing and hosted at Killington Resort. The five-week
series will feature free outdoor shows with bands straddling
various genres, including jam-bands, blues, funk, pop and more.
"Our band lineup for this year is diverse, and sure to offer
something for everyone. The bands we've selected are picked to be a
great match for this region, and will help us create a
mini-festival feel every weekend," says Suzie Dundas, director of
Killington's Office of Economic Development and Tourism. "We look
forward to Saturday afternoons of great music and great food and
beer as guests lounge literally in the middle of the Green
Mountains."
The concerts, held Saturdays from 4-6 p.m., feature free shows,
a BBQ & beer garden at Killington Resort's new umbrella bars,
lawn games and outdoor fun, plus the chance to win a 2012-2013
Killington season pass. Guests are encouraged to come early to
enjoy the atmosphere and summer activities, and to enjoy dinner
after the show along Killington Road. The lineup, which was
officially announced July 10, is as follows:
July 28
Rusted Root: Formed in the early 90's, Rusted Root's worldly style
has charmed fans for twenty years. Best known for their hit Send Me
on My Way, the band has sold over 3 million records and released
seven albums.
August 4
Love in Stockholm with opening front man Will Evans from Barefoot
Truth: Rock 'n 'soul' band Love in Stockholm emerged in 2007 from
the basement parties of Massachusetts, and soon gained a reputation
for their live performances, complete with blasting horns and front
man Charlie Rockwell's guttural wail. This show will be opened by
Will from Barefoot Truth - a crowd favorite from the past two
concert series.
August 11
Entrain: Entrain has released seven albums, all of which have been
praised for their ability to shift effortlessly between musical
styles - from rock, blues, calypso and ska, to zydeco, jazz and
funk - often within the same song.
August 18
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band: Back for their second year of
performing, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band ensemble has revolutionized
the New Orleans brass band style by incorporating funk and bebop
into the traditional New Orleans jazz and blues style.
August 25
Max Creek: Whether described as bluegrass, Grateful-Dead inspired
or audience-influenced, Max Creek is the traditional Americana
jam-band, having spent over 40 years playing together, even
inspiring covers of their original songs by Vermont's own
Phish.
