RUTLAND-The Rutland Regional Chamber of Commerce has awarded its
annual Business Person of the Year honor to Ron Hance, the CEO of
the Heritage Family Credit Union.
Hance said he didn't see it coming.
"No way," he said. "I had no idea. I was at the Chamber's annual
meeting luncheon, and I was overwhelmed. It took me completely by
surprise."
The ceremony was held last Wednesday, Oct. 24, with family and
HFCU's board of directors present.
According to a statement from the Chamber, Hance was chosen due
to his long involvement with the World Council of Credit Unions,
and his participation with the National Credit Union Association,
as well as the Association of Vermont Credit Unions.
A little closer to home, Hance was noted for his involvement
with both the College of St. Joseph's and with the Rutland Regional
Medical Center. Most recently, Hance was inducted into the Credit
Union Executive Society's Hall of Fame.
When Hance began as CEO at Heritage Family Credit Union, HFCU
had just over $2 million in assets, three employees and one
branch.
"I developed a passion for it," Hance said. "I hired many good
staff, and they have gotten us to where we are. It's not a one-man
show by any means."
Today, Heritage Family Credit Union has over $331 million in
assets, over 130 employees and nine branches with two student
credit unions, and will soon open a new operations center.
"HFCU has a lot of potential," Hance said. "Growth will be done
organically. We'll take care of our immediate future. Any more
growth is at least three or four years away."
According to the Chamber statement, Hance "has truly made a
difference in the lives of Heritage Family's employees, our members
and the communities in which the credit union serves."
