Sherburne Library celebrates 100 years with Centennial Gala

Sept. 7-8 - KILLINGTON - In 1913 Sherburne voters cast their ballots in favor of establishing a public library and funding it through with town tax dollars. A century later, the town's library is the only Vermont library and one of only 30 public libraries nationwide to receive a 5 star ranking for 5 consecutive years In Library Journals Index of Public Libraries.
The community will celebration the weekend of Sept. 7-8, at Sherburne Memorial Library.
Saturday, Sept. 7 from 1-3 p.m. - there will be a Library Open house that will include: games, free cake and ice cream and a drawing of lucky winners in our Tea Cup raffle. The raffle includes: Kindle Fire/HD, four midweek passes for Green Mountain National, gift certificates for area restaurants, ski tuning, goggles, a beautiful hand knitted blanket and more. Tickets are five for $5 or an arm length (25) for $20 and are on sale now. Drop tickets in the bag featuring the items of your choice; the more you enter the greater your chance of winning. Participants do not have to be present to win.
Sunday, Sept. 8 from 7-11 p.m. - Hearkening back to bygone era of "University of Killington's Cotillion and Debutantes Ball" the SML Centennial Benefit Gala promises to be "the social event of the decade." The Gala will be held Sunday from 7- 11 p.m. All are encouraged to dress to the nines, step into those dancing shoes and "trip the light fantastic" to live swing/jazz of the  Groovin' Dukes and music by DJ Dave at the Killington Events Hall.
There will be a free shuttle from the Birch Ridge Inn starting at 6:45 p.m. with the last shuttle leaving for the Killington Events Hall at 8:45 p.m. The return shuttles will leave the Hall at 10:45 p.m. with the last return shuttle leaving at 11:30 p.m.
The night will also feature: the coronation of a King and Queen, delicious fare and cash bar provided by Phil Black and the Lookout, a jitterbug contest, door prizes and a Super Silent Auction. The Silent Auction includes: an unlimited Killington Ski Pass, Hot Air Balloon Rides, Skis, Custom Orthodics, Greens Fees and  much much more.
