Fatal hit-and-run on Killington Road Saturday leaves NH man dead

Killington driver faces charges Monday

KILLINGTON - On Dec. 8, 2013, at approximately 11 a.m., the Vermont State Police were advised of a deceased person along the side of the road at Mountainview Road and the Killington Road. Police say a Killington driver hit and killed a New Hampshire man.

Kyle Wilson, age 26 from Enfield, NH, had been out for the evening, friends reported. At approx. 1 a.m. he had called them saying he would be walking back to their residence. He never showed up. His friends began looking for him in the morning. When they located him, they called the Vermont State Police.

The Killington Police Department, an area medical examiner, members of the Crash Reconstruction Team and the Crime Scene Search Team, the Vermont State Police and the Rutland County State's Attorney's office responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.

During the course of the investigation, they were able to identify Michael DeBillis, age 27 from Killington, as the operator of a vehicle that had struck Wilson. He had been driving a 2003 Volkswagon Jetta that suffered extensive front end and front passenger side damage.

DeBellis was subsequently taken into custody Sunday evening and processed for felony counts of Careless & Negligent Operation and Leaving the Scene of an Accident; with death resulting. DeBillis was transported to Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility and lodged for a lack of $25,000 bail. DeBillis is scheduled to appear in Rutland Criminal Court Monday, Dec. 9 at 12:30 p.m.
