One City, One Prompt events held in Rutland

Saturday October 29, 10 a.m.  - The Transformative Language Arts Network presents "One City, One Prompt: Rutland," to be hosted and sponsored locally by the Rutland Free Library. Facilitated by Goddard College Master's Student, Joanna Tebbs Young, this free community-building event will be held on Saturday, October 29, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Fox Room of Rutland Free Library.

One City, One Prompt is a three month long series of hosted writing, performance, and community-building events across the country, intended to cultivate greater civility, deeper dialogue, and sense of purpose. Facilitators from more than 70 communities will be hosting events in which participants will respond to a common theme shared throughout all the participating cities, the results of which will be made public through the website OneCityOnePrompt.org.

The 2011 theme is "community," and each event will focus on some aspect of this topic, adapted by local area facilitators to suite the interests of participants. Rutland's chosen sub-theme is "transformation." By having local communities gather and respond to a similar theme, we hope to inspire and connect participants to others across the country and world. To learn more about the events, see the website of the organizing group, The Transformative Language Arts Network: TLANetwork.org.

"The theme of Community Transformation seemed perfect for this area before Hurricane Irene, but after witnessing the incredible community spirit that arose in the aftermath of the storm, I believe the timing for this event is perfect," said facilitator Joanna Tebbs Young. At the event a prompt will be provided to which participants may respond in writing or art. "Writing on a common theme is a unique way of connecting - it's a community conversation," said Ms. Young.
