Dear Editor,
Forty years ago at Christmas time, a little boy wrote a letter to
"Letters to Santa" on WSYB, asking for help, because his younger
brother needed a blanket and a pair of boots. The window in their
bedroom was broken and they had stuffed cardboard over it to stay
warm. And his family couldn't afford them. A collection was taken
up to buy those boots and that was the beginning of the WSYB
Christmas Fund. Since that Christmas, the Christmas Fund has raised
well over a million dollars to help those less fortunate during the
holiday season.
Because of the unending generosity of the Rutland community, the
Christmas Fund has provided gifts each year for struggling families
and children who, without your help, would have had nothing at
all.
On behalf of the WSYB Christmas Fund Board of Directors, volunteers
and staff at Catamount Radio, thank you. This year, the Christmas
Fund collected more than $43,000 in contributions from individuals,
businesses and organizations and brought the joy of Christmas to
more than 700 people in Rutland County!
It's important to know that every single penny donated to the
Christmas Fund goes right back out to help our neighbors in need.
No one gets paid and there are no administrative costs. Catamount
Radio covers all the stationery, postage and fundraising
expenses.
We also want to thank our partners at Walmart, Sanborn Associates
accounting firm, the social service agencies, schools and churches
who provide us with the names of families, and all the people who
volunteered their time to make the WSYB Christmas a huge success
this year.
