On Jan. 28 at approximately 11:45 p.m., Troopers from the
Vermont State Police Rutland barracks responded to an alarm at the
Barstow Memorial School located on the Chittenden Road in the Town
of Chittenden.
Upon arrival Troopers met with the key holder who advised that
there was a vehicle parked in the rear of the building and there
were lights on in the building, which is not typical for a
Saturday. Troopers also observed the doors to the school buses
ajar. A search of the school was conducted and no one was
found inside.
While Troopers were finishing the search of the school another
Trooper came in contact with two juvenile males who were walking
out of a wooded area behind the school. The two juvenile males were
questioned and police learned that they took the fire extinguishers
from inside the busses and urinated on the seats. The fire
extinguishers were recovered during a consent search of the
suspects vehicle. The juveniles also advised that they entered the
school through an unlocked door and walked around. The
juveniles were later identified as Timothy Hughes and Ethan
Snitker, both 16 years old from Mendon, Vt.
The juveniles were taken into police custody and transported to the
State Police barracks in Rutland where they were charged with
unlawful trespass, vandalism to a motor vehicle and larceny from a
motor vehicle.
