Letter to Editor, True obstacles

Dear Editor,

Thank you Karen Lorentz for the informative and insightful article on the history of the Killington Resort Ski Village. It comes at a time when SP Land is in midst of Act 250 review on its plans for the Ski Village. As was noted in the article many nuisance and extortionate claims have been made in the past to stall development at the resort. This seems to be currently the case with the current Act 250 review.

A few months ago the Select Board unanimously agreed to support the advancement of the Ski Village development in light of the economic development initiatives the town has taken.

It was said that the development of the Ski Village would dwarf any economic development efforts the town could make on its own.

Given this context, shouldn't the Town reconsider its business relationships with those who seek to stall or undermine SP Land's development efforts and make good on the Select Board's commitment to expedite the process.

The Ski Village Development would accomplish what both the Community Growth and Tax Reform Committees seek to do. It would provide well paying jobs and an increased tax base to attract more year round  residents and ease the tax burden on the rest of the town.
