Mark Smith, a friend to all who know him, and a special friend
of the City of Rutland Department of Pubic Works, Rutland City Fire
Department and Rutland City Parks and Recreation Department was
honored with a new Huskvarna riding mower, official Rutland City
credentials, and clothing and accessories on the occasion of his
50th birthday.
Mark is a regular volunteer "helper" at City projects and is
well known by all the employees for his friendly attitude and
genuine concern for his neighbors.
The gifts were a total surprise. City employees assembled at
White's Playground with two fire trucks, DPW vehicles and a truck
and trailer carrying his new mower. Mark arrived totally unaware of
the gift and to the sound of fire truck lights and sirens. He was
totally taken aback and bubbled with pride and joy when he finally
realized the gift was for him. His previous mower had died and the
many good Samaritans among City workers and numerous friends wished
for him to have a new machine.
Congratulations to Mark and to the many kind people who care for
him.
