On July 10, at approximately 8:58 p.m. the Vermont State Police
Rutland Barracks was dispatched to the Green Mountain National
Forest-Lefferts Pond, located in Chittenden, Vt., for two lost
hikers.
Shung Yee (age 38) and Laurentius Heesterman (age 49), husband
and wife from St. Martin (Caribbean), parked their vehicle at the
Lefferts Pond parking area and began hiking the Lefferts Pond
Trail, which essentially loops around the pond. At some point Shung
and Laurentius lost their way ending up on a VAST snowmobile
trail. The two walked the VAST trail until they came to an
intersection.Shung dialed Emergency 911 to report she and her
husband were lost. Shung provided information as to her
surroundings and the trail markings. With that information
Trooper's were able to identify the location as the VAST
intersection 7N and 4W.
Trooper's drove to their location using National Forest Road
99. Troopers gave Shung and Laurentius and ride back to their
vehicle. Shung and Laurentius reported being uninjured.
