Okemo Mountain Resort's Tim and Diane Mueller made a grand
entrance for the grand opening of the Resort's new Sawyer's Sweep
Zipline Tour on July 12. To celebrate the new Adventure Zone
attraction, the Muellers donned helmets and harnesses and, while
suspended from a 750-foot-long cable, soared to the final landing
platform 50 feet above a gathering of 150 Okemo Valley Regional
Chamber of Commerce members who experienced the Adventure Zone for
the afternoon as Tim and Diane's guests.
The Sawyer's Sweep Zipline Tour is a high-flying, treetop
excursion located on the mountain behind Okemo's Jackson Gore Inn.
The two-and-a-half-hour tour features seven ziplines, three rappels
and two suspension bridges. Groups of up to eight people,
accompanied by two expert guides, start with 30 minutes of Ground
School. Each guest is fitted with a helmet and harness, and becomes
acquainted with safety procedures and instructions for riding the
ziplines. Participants must be at least 10 years old and must weigh
between 80 and 250 pounds.
Sawyer's Sweep Zipline Tours are offered daily throughout the
summer and are available by reservation only. Winter tours will be
offered as well. Tours are priced at $89 per person, $59 per person
for guests of Okemo Mountain Resort lodging or $60 as an add-on to
the purchase of an Okemo Adventure Zone Day Pass. Zipline tours may
be reserved by calling (802) 228-1600. More information about Okemo
Mountain Resort may be obtained by visiting www.okemo.com
Also new to Okemo's Adventure Zone this summer, the Amp Energy
Big Air Bag is a giant inflatable pillow, similar to those used by
Hollywood-movie stuntmen. Introduced in January as an on-mountain
feature for skiers and snowboarders, the Amp Energy Big Air Bag is
30 feet wide and 50 feet long. Jumpers climb a staircase and leap
from a platform 30 feet above the ground. Jumps are $5 each or
three for $10. A release of liability must be signed by the user or
a parent or guardian prior to use.
Okemo's Adventure Zone made its debut last summer with The
Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster, Lumberin' Cal Mini Golf, The Stump
Jumper Trampoline Bungee Jump, The Maples Disc Golf Course,
Twiggy's Snack Bar and The Ripper Arcade and Gift Shop.
Segway Personal Transport tours and a rock-climbing pinnacle have
been added to the Adventure Zone lineup this year.
