Dear Editor,
As long time artist member of the Rutland Area Art
Association (i.e.: The Chaffee Art Center) and a current member of
the Art Committee, I cannot express how devastated I am
about the departure of Mary Mitiguy as director. She has
brought as much or more vitality and enthusiasm to the gallery than
there has been in the more than 16 years I have been associated
with the organization-not to mention bringing in grants through
incredible hard work and long hours.
Artists have felt they and their work were appreciated; other
groups and individuals were welcomed-the Friday Writers Group, the
Vermont Artist's Repertory Theater performance; the
dedicated children's art room; and Peruvian Artist in Residence,
Persi Narvaez's magnificent mural in the heart of downtown Rutland
sponsored in part by the Chaffee. These are just a few
examples.
She was friendly, creative and ALWAYS there with a smile. Above
all she was dedicated. This is an enormous loss for the Chaffee,
the art community, and the city of Rutland.
Who knows what will happen next?
