Preston E. Ehmann, Jr., 84, died on September 5, 2012 at his
apartment in The Meadows in Rutland. He was born on September 11,
1927 in Irvington, N.J. to Preston and Hilda Ehmann. He served in
the Navy during WWII and was married to his high school sweetheart,
Margaret Baker, in 1949.
He received his Associates Degree from Newark College of
Engineering in 1949 and formed Ehmann Brothers Construction Co.
with his brothers Bob and Ron. An avid ski enthusiast, he and his
family moved to Killington, Vt. in 1970, and he brought the company
with him.
He was deeply invested in the Town of Killington, serving on the
Sherburne Volunteer Fire Department, the Killington Zoning Board,
served as the Killington Town Constable and as President of the
Killington Rotary Club, receiving he Paul Harris Fellow Award in
1988.
He and his wife moved to York, Me. in 1990, returning to Rutland
in 2007.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; a son William Ehmann, his
wife Carol and their three children, Camden, Evan and Elizabeth of
Chittenden, Vt.; a daughter Donna Housington and her husband David
of Belmont, Vt.; his aunt Edna Coburn of Tucson, Az., and many
beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, Preston
Ehmann III and two brothers, Robert and Ronald.
A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Sherburne Volunteer Fire Department or the Sunshine Fund at The
Meadows.
