Just after 12-noon on Thursday, Oct. 11, a fire broke out at
Giddings Equipment (the Kubota dealership) on Route 7 consuming the
building before firefighters were able to put out the flames.
No one was injured in the blaze which lasted about 45
minutes.
Firefighting efforts were complicated by delays in the water
pumping system at the scene, The Rutland Herald reported on Oct.
12. According to that report, crews initially had access to water,
but pressure to the lines dropped off until the hoses were empty.
Firefighters were forced to wait while the lines were restored.
Crews from Pittsford, Brandon, Chittenden and Proctor all
responded to the call and helped to extinguish the fire. But the
building that remains is little more than a charred shell.
Everything inside the garage was lost, including antique
snowmobiles and tractors.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it is not deemed
suspicious.
