Dear Editor,
Anne Gallivan is running for State Representative for the towns
of Killington, Bridgewater, Mendon and Chittenden. We are very
pleased to have such a great choice for a new voice to represent us
in Montpelier. Anne has our enthusiastic support.
For those of you who don't know Anne as the former dedicated
library teacher for the Barstow Memorial School, as a director of
school-based mentoring, as a regular volunteer on many community
and professional fronts, or in her door-to-door quest to meet with
you and hear your concerns, we hope you will take the time to get
to know her. Anne is motivated by a love for Vermont, and a desire
to see it maintain vibrant growth, with job creation and families
who will fill our great schools to capacity. Anne is committed,
reliable, smart, hard-working and approachable. She will listen and
will speak for your concerns without being driven by a prescribed
agenda.
You may have received an e-mail message from Anne's opponent on the
eve of the primary election, in which he attempted to silence her
message by asking voters to take a Democratic ballot and write in
his name instead of voting for Anne. Thankfully, this most
un-Vermont approach was unsuccessful and you now have the choice
between two very different candidates. Anne is a straight-shooter
with the interests of you and your family and your community at
heart.
After hearing about a disturbing lack of votes from our current
representative, we looked at his record: He was absent for 22 of 74
votes in the legislature during the last legislative session,
including the major one on health care reform from his own
committee, Health Care. While we don't just judge the work of our
legislators simply by their attendance, the four-month term is
short enough that we would expect an attendance rate of better than
65%.
Anne Gallivan will be an advocate for the concerns of our
communities and will bring an educated and strong voice to the
problem-solving discussions in Montpelier.
We hope you will join us in voting for Anne Gallivan for State
Representative.
Jack Kennelly and Patti Lancaster, Mendon, Vt.
