Jacket stolen from Basin Ski Shop, thief identified and property returned

On Sept. 30 at 7:40 a.m., troopers from the Rutland barracks responded to an alarm activation at the Basin Ski Shop in Killington, Vt. Owners arrived on scene and determined a single jacket had been stolen from a jacket rack in the store. The owner described a male he had seen walking from the area moments before as suspicious and believed the male had been wearing the stolen merchandise.

Troopers made contact with William Petersen, age 44 from Greenbush, NY, who denied entering the building and stealing the jacket.  The jacket appeared new and was eventually identified as being stolen from the ski shop. The jacket, valued at $250, was returned to the owners. Petersen was taken into custody and lodged at MVCC for lack of $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear for burglary and possession of stolen property charges on Oct. 12.
