Dear Editor,
I am voting to send U. S. Rep. Peter Welch, from my hometown of
Hartland, back to Washington so he can continue his good
representation of us in Congress. There are many reasons to
vote for Peter. I will highlight just one: He has been
fighting the influence of money in politics.
This has become harder, but also more important than ever, since
the Citizens United decision. In that case, the U.S. Supreme
Court combined the doctrine that corporations have the same
constitutional rights as citizens and the doctrine that spending
money is the same thing as constitutionally protected
speech. The political Frankenstein's Monster that they created
is now spewing Super PAC money into elections.
Peter has co-sponsored three constitutional amendments to
overturn Citizens United. He has co-authored legislation that
would end the influence of big money in politics by publicly
financing federal elections. He is leading a House effort to
pressure federal agencies to police political campaigns strictly
until Citizens United is overturned. He is doing his part to
preserve our system of government.
Please help him continue.
