On Jan. 1 at approximately 6:26 a.m., Troopers from VSP-Rutland
were dispatched to a large party, attended by over 100 people, at
3593 East Mountain Road, a residence owned by Richard Sylvester.
They were advised that a bloody male had been located in a snow
bank near this residence.
When Troopers arrived, they found a male that was covered in
blood. They were able to identify him as Joseph Tannetta, 32 years
old, from Massachusetts. Tannetta had not suffered any injuries and
the blood was apparently not his.
The Rutland Barracks then received a call from the Rutland City
Police advising that they had a male who was transported by friends
to the Rutland Regional Medical Center suffering from numerous stab
wounds. This male was identified as Dennis Walsh, 30 years old.
Detective from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations were then
called in to assist.
Detectives interviewed numerous people who were at the party,
the emergency room, and the victim himself. Everyone interviewed
were uncooperative and stated that there was a fight that had
occurred, but claimed they did not witness it. Even Walsh, the
victim, was uncooperative though he admitted to knowing what had
happened. One female, Brittany Coffey, 20 years old, gave a false
name and was also charged with Impeding a Police Officer and
Driving While Intoxicated.
This investigation is continuing and state police are asking
anyone with information involving this incident to call Trooper
Michael Tietz at 773-9101.
