Killington selectboard appointments: Economic Development and Tourism Commission

KILLINGTON - On April 9, the Killington Selectboard unanimously adopted a strategic operating plan to focus its 2013-14 efforts on making the Town a premier resort community.

In order to become a premier resort community, offering residents a high quality of life and tourists a memorable mountain adventure, the plan outlines four simple goals: 1) maintaining fiscal strength and low municipal taxes; 2) providing efficient municipal services; 3) increasing tourism and year round employment; 4) maintaining strong educational and cultural institutions.

Understanding that economic development is a mission of the Town rather than a department and that a coordinated approach of events, marketing, golf, planning, recreation, capital projects, finance and Town policy is critical to helping grow the Killington economy, the Town has centralized the management of economic development under the Town Manager.

The Selectboard is now seeking candidates interested in serving on the Economic Development and Tourism Commission (EDTC.)

The Commission shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Town Manager, Board of Selectmen and the community. The Commission shall advise the Town on issues associated with the generation of additional four season business activity while stimulating the local economy through diversification and expansion of entertainment, special events and infrastructure to ensure that the Town of Killington remains a dynamic and vibrant destination. A copy of the complete EDTC organizational policy is available on the town's website.

If a community member is interested in serving, please submit your letter of interest by May 17 to:
