Downtown Rutland sets the holiday season ‘in motion’

RUTLAND - On Monday, Nov. 25, the Downtown Rutland Partnership (DRP) announced a host of activities taking place in Downtown Rutland this holiday season including animated windows, a chance to win a $250 prize and a kick-off holiday celebration.
To start, this Saturday, Nov. 30, shops in Downtown Rutland will offer extended hours and holiday specials in support of the Nationwide Shop Local effort, Small Business Saturday.
On Sunday, Dec. 1, over 40 first-floor downtown businesses will unveil a district-wide effort of animated holiday window decorations. Spearhead by Tim Schneller of Timco Jewelers, the program was funded in-part by a marketing grant from DRP and product donations from Vermont Teddy Bear Company. With original estimations of approximately 20 participating businesses, the program has far exceeded expectations and more than doubled in size. Many windows will offer interactive (and energy saving) elements in which 'buttons' will be installed on the façade of the business allowing consumers to operate the animations themselves.
Along with these creative and unique displays, downtown Rutland is offering a consumer promotion from Sunday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 15 in direct relation to the animated windows. Consumers are invited to visit ten of the participating animated holiday window businesses in downtown between Dec. 1-15 to receive stamps on their entry form. Once the consumer has filled their entry form with ten unique stamps from ten participating animated window businesses, they can submit their completed form at any participating downtown animated window business.
On Monday, Dec. 16, ten winners will be chosen randomly. Nine winners will each receive a prize of $50 in value and one lucky winner will receive a $250 Price Chopper Shopping Spree.  Limit one entry per household. Entry forms will be available beginning Saturday, Nov. 30 in participating stores or at
Mid-way through the animated window promotion, Downtown Rutland will host their Holiday Celebration Kick-off on Saturday, Dec. 7. The all-day event includes children's activities, visits to the Grinch's Lair at Merchants Hall (11 a.m. - 6 p.m.), a pre-tree lighting party at Merchants Hall (4-6 p.m.) and the annual downtown Rutland tree lighting in Depot Park at 6 p.m.
Downtown businesses will offer extended shopping hours throughout the holiday season. For more info visit
