Arrest for armed robbery at Rite Aid in West Rutland

WEST RUTLAND-Saturday, Feb. 11, at approximately 4:15 p.m. the Vermont State Police were dispatched to a armed robbery at Rite Aid Pharmacy, located at 296 Main Street in West Rutland, Vt. Member from the Vermont State Police were dispatched immediately to the scene. Troopers arrived, along with detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, to investigate the incident. Upon investigation, it was learned that a lone white male suspect presented a note to the pharmacist demanding prescription drugs. The suspect indicated that he had a weapon, but none was seen during the incident. The pharmacy turned over an unspecified amount of prescription medication and the suspect fled.

Vermont State Police Rutland in a joint effort with the Rutland County Sheriff's Department conducted an investigation into an armed robbery at the West Rutland Rite Aid. Detectives reviewed surveillance tapes and a ground search and canvas were conducted and with the assistance of the public. The suspect was described as a white male, age 30 - 40 years old, with fair skin, thin beard growth, last seen wearing a tan parka and dark green sweatshirt with the hood up.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. a suspect was arrested for the robbery in West Rutland. Christopher McCarthy, age 42, residing in the Rutland Area was apprehended outside the West Rutland Price Chopper and lodged at Marble Valley Correctional Center (MVCC) for lack of $75,000.00 bail.
