The Lady Phantoms Proctor basketball team and their coaches,
Chris and Lisa Hughes, will be teaming up with the Proctor
Community to help in the fight against cancer.
They will be sponsoring a Lady Phantoms vs Cancer fundraiser at
their home game against Woodstock on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at
6:30pm.
The Coaches vs. Cancer is an official fundraising program founded
by The American Cancer Society and the National Association of
Basketball Coaches.
Each player and coach has been asked to get at least one sponsor
for this event. The sponsor will donate 25 cents per point scored
by both Proctor and Woodstock at this game.
The Proctor Sports Boosters have offered to donate their half of
the 50/50 to the cause and the Proctor School Board has also
offered to donate $1 of each admission price to The American Cancer
Society.
Chris and Lisa Hughes feel this fundraising event will have a very
positive influence on their Lady Phantoms - showing them, by
example, how rewarding it is to raise contributions for such a
worthy cause. "Our 'team' involvement in this event will prove
to be a successful fundraising event for The Amercian Cancer
Society, a positive learning experience for our Lady Phantoms, and
a great way to 'unite' our team, our school and our community as a
whole," they said.
Cancer does not discriminate, it affects all ages, statistics show
that one in every three people will, at some point in their lives,
be affected by some form of cancer.
The Lady Phantoms will be wearing Purple Warm Up Shirts in honor of
this event. Attendees are also encouraged to wear purple to show
your support for "Hope" in the fight against cancer.
