Heritage Family Credit Union breaks ground on new operations center

Heritage Family Credit Union celebrated the groundbreaking of their new operations center Wednesday, March 28.

The 26 Allen Street facility, which previously housed the Army Reserve's Maintenance Support Facility, will be completely renovated over the next year and will compliment Heritage Family Credit Union's retail buildings at 30 Allen Street and 50 West Street. The new operations center has been designed by BMA Architects and Plans, with Russell Construction Company overseeing the project as general contractor and Enman Engineering as the project engineers.

When completed in the spring of 2012, the 27,000 square foot center will house approximately 60 of HFCU's 130 employees. The administration and operations staff will include the following departments; training, collections, accounting, compliance, information technologies and the call center, leaving both Allen and West Street facilities for retail operations.

The new operations center allows the credit union's branches to free up much needed space for the growth of retail staff and services.  Ron Hance, HFCU's CEO was quoted saying, "We clearly are a locally owned financial solution that serves central and southern Vermont as well as Hooksett, New Hampshire. Our financial commitment to this project demonstrates our positive feeling for the infrastructure that will serve this facility but moreover the quality of staff that we have assembled from this, the greater Rutland Region. Our future looks very bright and our new building will play a major role in building economies of scale and efficiencies that will be of mutual benefit to our entire membership for years to come."

Heritage Family Credit Union was established in 1956 as the Ludlow-Rutland General Electric Employees' Credit Union and moved into the 30 Allen Street, Rutland headquarters in 1990. The name was changed in 1994 to better reflect the make-up of the membership which then represented Select Employee Groups and later a community charter.  Today, Heritage Family Credit Union has 10 branches including two Student Credit Unions, with over 32, 000 members.
