Sustainable Rutland is seeking creative artists of all ages and
skill levels to participate in its fourth-annual Trash 2 Art
Contest & Exhibit on Oct. 6. Deadline for entries is Sept. 28,
2012. The event, which draws hundreds, will be held from 11 a.m. to
3 p.m. in downtown Rutland during Harvest Fest - a day that
includes Art in the Park, the farmers' market, and carriage rides
down Center Street.
Artists who sign up will also be given a time-limited pass to
the Rutland Transfer Station where they will have access to a wide
variety of discarded materials for their project.
Learning to reduce, reuse, and recycle is an important part of
everyone's life and an essential component of a healthy
environment. This project encourages everyone - no matter your
experience or lack of experience with art - to turn trash into art
and have fun doing it.
Prizes will be awarded in adult and youth categories and include
a "Best In Show" adult prize of $300 as well as a "People's Choice"
prize of $250. Winners will be selected by a panel of community
members and artists.
New this year: submit a freestanding, playable hole for a
miniature golf course.
The entry fee is $10 for adults; $5 for college students;
children under 18 are free. To learn more visit
