WUHS class of 2013 valedictorian and salutatorian announced

WOODSTOCK - Anthony Bald of Woodstock and Asa Waterworth of Pittsfield have been selected to serve as Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Woodstock Union High School's Class of 2013, respectively. The commencement ceremony will be held Friday, June 14, at the school campus.

Both Bald and Waterworth are academically exceptional students who have pursued well-balanced program of studies in addition to participating in a variety of extracurricular activities including school sports teams, clubs and volunteer opportunities.

Bald has received a number of honors, including the Dartmouth College Book Award 2012 and University of Vermont Math Contest Best in School 2010, 2011 and 2012. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society. Bald participated on the school's Cross Country Running and the Track and Field teams.

Some of Bald's volunteer activities include the theater technical crew and as a counselor with the Student Outreach Services group that helps peers cope with transitions, grief and loss, or addictions. A 4.0 student, Bald will attend Pomona College in California, where he plans to major in mathematics.

Waterworth has earned numerous academic and art awards including the Wellesley College Book Award, the UV Photo Slam Jurors Award and the VINS Environmental Award at the AVA Gallery. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society, and studied abroad in Saint Gaudens France for a semester. Waterworth participated on both the Soccer and Lacrosse teams.

She volunteers weekly in the school's Community Classroom and for the Special Olympics through Zack's Place. Waterworth plans to attend Connecticut College to pursue studies in Sociology and Anthropology.
