Poultney's July 4th
The Martin Devlin Fun Run beginning at the Green Mountain College at 8 a.m. Registration is at 7 a.m. with the entrance fee of $10.00 including a t-shirt. Proceeds go to help the Rutland Visiting Nurses and Hospice.
The Poultney Methodist Church Men's Club will hold their Annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast at the Methodist Church on Main Street, 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The menu is Pancakes with Vermont Maple Syrup, Bacon or Sausage, Juice or Coffee. Ages 12 and older will eat for just $6.00. Children under 12 eat for $4.00.
This years Parade with the theme being "Our American Heritage" will begin at the East Poultney Green at 10 a.m. Bob Williams "Poultney's Citizen of the Year" will be the Grand Marshal. The Parade route will be down East Main Street, to Main Street, to College Street, ending at the Poultney Elementary School. Prizes for float entries will be provided by the Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce. The Judges stand will be in front of the Citizen's Bank.
Field Events will be held at the Poultney Elementary School after the Parade. There will be great food and fun activities including, games, music and magic. Back by popular demand, the Catamount Pipe Band will perform again this year. A great fiddler troupe "Atlantic Crossing " will also perform. There will be lots of other fun activities throughout the day and evening with the Great Fireworks beginning at dusk.
The Poultney Library will hold their Annual Book Sale on Saturday, July 5 from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. The Library always has a great variety of books so come early for the best selection. Most books are priced from 50 cents and up.
The United Baptist Church located in East Poultney invites all to an Antique Appraisal with Jim Marquis and Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social. This event will be held on Tuesday, July 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the church's town room. You may bring your antiques and treasures to Jim to have them appraised for $5.00 for a single item or 3 item for $10.00. (please do not bring jewelry for appraisal). Also enjoy an old fashioned ice cream sundae with your choice of topping while your there. Air conditioned and handicapped accessible.
Come to an Old Fashion Band Concert in Poultney. The Poultney/Granville Town Band will perform on Sunday July 6 on the East Poultney Green, 7 to 8 p.m. Free and open to all. Please call 287-5185 for more information.
The Poultney Area Artist Guild's Summer Exhibit will be Saturday, July 12, 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. at the Bentley House Bed and Breakfast, 399 Bentley Avenue, Poultney, VT. The Opening Reception will be held Friday, July 11, 7-9 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Come and look and purchase a work of art. 10% of all artist sales is donated to the Poultney Area Artist Guild to help support community based arts activities and education. |
