Rutland Recreation’s Densmore named a Vermont “Rising Star”

Vermont Business Magazine has selected Nicole Densmore, youth sports director at the Rutland Recreation and Parks Department, as one of Vermont’s “Rising Stars.” A panel of judges choose Rising Stars based on their contribution to their place of employment as well as to the community in which they live. The accolade is made to only a few Vermont young professionals each year.

“I feel honored to be chosen and it came as a complete surprise”, said Densmore.

The Rising Stars program was started in 2010 to show Vermonters and in particular the youth of Vermont that there are people in Vermont under the age of forty that do make significant contributions to this state, and that they are a valued resource when it comes to their employers and their communities.

“A combination of Nicole’s education and her enthusiasm for sports and the youth of the region made her a great fit for the youth sports programs at the recreation department,” said Cindi Wight, superintendent of the recreation department, “plus she is a life-long resident of the area and is very knowledgeable about the community.”

Densmore’s contributions to the community include sitting on the boards at Rutland City Rotary and the Rutland Young Professionals (RYP) organization. Her involvement with Rotary includes fundraising for the different need-based organizations in the area. For RYP she helps bring the region’s young professionals together to network through events sponsored at different businesses in the area. She also works with local businesses to help recruit young professionals to the area.

Densmore graduated from Castleton University in 2008 with a degree in sports administration with a focus in sports promotion and received her master’s in education at the College of St. Joseph in 2014. She began working for the Recreation & Parks department shortly after graduation.
