Award-winning musician to perform in Weston

Sunday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m.—WESTON—Multi-talented musician Arvel Bird will give a performance on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. in Weston’s Old Parish Church (OPC). It is the latest edition of OPC’s “Hearts & Voices Performance Series.”
Award- winning recording artist Arvel Bird’s music draws upon his dual heritage—Celtic and American Indian—plus tunes drawn from many other genres. He has toured America and the World, winning both national as well as international acclaim. Mr. Bird is skilled at many instruments but first and foremost he is “fiddle-icious!”
Mr. Bird describes himself as follows:
“I’m Arvel Bird and originally from the Southwest. Since early 2000 I’ve been touring the world, performing music inspired by my dual heritage. I hope you enjoy the confluence of styles in my music.
I’ve been playing violin since I was 9 years old. Later, as an adult, I taught myself guitar, keyboard, mandolin, Native American flutes and Celtic whistles. As a songwriter and performer, my music reflects my love of diversity—bluegrass, blues, Celtic, classical, contemporary Native American, folk, new age, and rock.”
Since 2002, Mr. Bird has released 25 CDs, two EPs and two DVDs, and has won numerous music awards in the United States and Canada, including Best Instrumental, Artist of the Year, Best Engineer, Best Producer and more.
The Hearts & Voices Performance Series was established in 2009 in memory of G. Frederick (Fritz) Zeller, a longtime educator, community leader and a pillar of Old Parish Church. All revenues from the performances beyond direct expenses are donated to deserving area non-profit organizations. In this instance, patrons are asked to donate $10 each to benefit the Springfield Humane Society. To date, the Hearts and Voices Series has raised almost $15,000 on behalf of worthy local charities while providing quality entertainment to attendees at modest cost.
Old Parish Church is located on Route 100, on the left as you enter Weston from the South.  Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to be certain of getting a seat.
