Barn Opera announces first 2020 “Opera Under The Stars”

Popular favorites by various composers performed

Saturday, Sept, 12 at 7:30 p.m—BRANDON—As Vermont continues on the decline of infection rates of Covid-19, Barn Opera is able to provide an opportunity to experience live performance this fall. Brandon’s opera company, Barn Opera, will offer an evening of arias, duets, and scenes from opera and musical theatre, as a love letter from your favorite Barn Opera artists, to the Vermonter audience. The repertoire will span centuries from Mozart to Gounod, Rossini to Puccini, with recognizable tunes, and virtuosic vocalism.

The  performance will take place in Brandon on Sept. 12, less than 2 miles from the new Barn Opera house, at Estabrook Park, at the northern gateway to Brandon. This performance will be held outdoors, in a socially distant manner and will welcome 150 people to this concert with marked off 10 foot squares to enjoy a picnic dinner while listening to some phenomenal music under the early autumnal stars of Vermont.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions of staging, organizers have decided to create a musical postcard from the opera world to you by presenting some of opera and musical theatre’s best-loved scenes, duets, and arias from Puccini’s timeless and tragically romantic Tosca to Verdi’s “Libiamo” from La Traviata, from The Magic Flute’s “Der Holle Rache” to perhaps the most famous aria in all of opera “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot, and everything in-between. With vocal pyrotechnics, and toe-tapping melodies, this concert has something for everyone.

This event features a principal cast of professional singing-actors that all live in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine. All the artists that will perform in “Under the Stars” are artists who understand the gravity of the situation we are  in, and who are willing to self-quarantine for two weeks prior to arrival in Vermont, or provide negative test results for Covid-19.

Organizers have taken great pains to ensure the safety of not only the artists who will perform but the audience that will be in attendance. Visit barnopera.com/safety-measures for more complete information.

There will be no concessions or distribution of wine, as many Barn Opera goers are accustomed to, but any legal refreshments may be brought to Estabrook Park in Brandon.

Tickets to attend the performance will be delivered electronically by visiting Barn Opera’s new ticket site. Unlike previous productions, there will be assigned seats. Net proceeds from this benefit event will be used to support Barn Opera’s future endeavors and the opening of the Barn Opera House, as well as furthering the goal of the Compass Music and Arts Foundation’s to provide opportunities for the youth of Vermont to achieve artistic development without socio-economic division.

Facial coverings are non-negotiable for both artist and audience, and they will provide disposable masks and hand sanitizer stations at the entrance to both venues as well as clear pedestrian traffic patterns for both venues.

Audience member who arrives at any performance without proper facial covering and refuses to wear the company issued one, or refuses to adhere to the marked foot traffic instructions will be denied entrance, and ineligible for a refund for tickets.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for both events in order to reduce queue at the door and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., with brief intermissions in between sets. There will be no concessions or distribution of wine, as many Barn Opera goers are accustomed to, but any legal refreshments may be brought to Estabrook Park in Brandon.

Tickets to attend the performance will be delivered electronically by visiting barnopera.com.
