Benson hosts “groovy” 1960s-themed Family Day

Sunday, Aug. 14—BENSON—The town of Benson holds its annual Family Day on Sunday, Aug. 14. With this year’s theme being the 1960s expect some “groovy” fun with the complimentary breakfast (8-10 a.m.) in the United Church of Benson, the Eighth grade BBQ at the community hall, farmers market and town museum, town-wide tag sales, ATV and garden tractor pulls, and the most unique feature yet: the burdock competition.
The parade includes a “newcomers’ float,” a white pickup sporting red letters that spell out “Welcome wagon.” Organizers say, “Comfort is not guaranteed, but ‘oldtimers’ don’t usually throw produce or eggs at the newcomers.” To ride in the newcomers float, call Jan Ladd, 537-3434. Food is available at The Wheel Inn and West Coast Tacos.
