Castleton University celebrates Women’s History Month throughout March

Wednesday, March 4 & 11 at 12 p.m.—CASTLETON—March is Women’s History Month and Castleton University celebrates with a variety of events, including lectures, films, and workshops to commemorate and encourage the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in history. This year’s theme is “Valiant Women of the Vote,” honoring the brave women who fought to win suffrage rights for women and those who continue to fight for the voting rights of others.

Castleton has proudly highlighted the influence of women during Women’s History Month since 1988. The University’s hallmark Women’s History Month event, “Every Woman Has a Story,” will take place every Wednesday in the Alumni Room of Huden Dining Hall beginning at 12 p.m. Over the course of four weeks, a mix of eight Castleton women, including student, faculty, and staff, will share their personal stories in a 15-minute presentation. A meal plan is not required to attend the event and all are encouraged to hear the unique tales of Castleton women. A special door rate of $4 per person for lunch will be offered for all guests.

In addition to these events, the Castleton International Film Festival returns with a slate of films directed by women from March 10 to March 24. Artist Traci Molloy’s “Portraits of Resilience: Select Collaborative Projects from 2014-2019” will be on display in the Christine Price Gallery from March 2 through April 3. Molloy’s work explores themes of adolescent culture, identity, and narrative in relation to gender, class, race, and violence.

The Women’s History Month Committee is also hosting a book discussion for Etaf Rum’s debut novel ,“A Woman is No Man.” The book explores the pathology of silence, following three generations of Palestinian women as they confront the cultural expectations that shape their lives.
