Cobra gymnasts visit Olympic Training Center in Texas

On Sunday, June 5,  Shelby Collett, owner and head team coach for Cobra Gymnastics & Dance Center and Aaron Snook, team coach, returned from the Olympic Training Center in Texas with six of their gymnasts: McKenna Greene, Charlotte Swenor, Mia Marsh, Maleah Jones, Valerie Johnson and Ella Tashjian.
The training center, located at the Karolyi Ranch (Bela and Marta Karolyi), is the home for the women’s artistic, sport acro, rhythmic, tumbling and trampoline and general gymnastics programs. It has been the training site for the women’s artistic team since 1999 and in 2011 became the official United States Olympic training site for the above programs.
Servicing over 3,000 USA gymnastics athletes, coaches and staff per year the facilities was an ideal setting for the four day intensive training course designed for levels 4, 5, 6 and 7. Working with Olympic and national team coaches such as Tammy Biggs, Mary Lee Tracy, Steve Arkell and Cassie Rice, the Vermont team of girls and coaches were able to go above and beyond skills and drills that they currently perform in their home gym in Rutland.
All athletes came back to Cobra with exciting new goals and new skills that they will be showcasing in the 2016-17 competitive season, Shelby Collett said. The trip was highlighted by a final stop in Hartford, Conn., where the teammates witnessed performances by Olympic athletes Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Simone Biles and Sam Mikulak in the men’s P&G Championships and the Women’s U.S. Secret Classic.
“The anticipation for the 2016 Olympics is tangible at Cobra Gymnastics this summer!” said Collett.
